About the Post

We are looking to appoint an In School Learning Centre Lead to join our SEN Department at Twynham School.

Our In School Learning Centre is a provision within our school site, which provides pupils who display emotional dysregulation or emotional based school avoidance, a safe and attuned learning environment to promote their attendance at school and into lessons.

Pupils can be referred into this provision via their Head of House, or SENCO. Most pupils will use this provision on a short-term basis, with the view to return to lessons as soon as possible. At Twynham School we are clear in our ethos that all pupils deserve access to a broad and balanced curriculum, taught by subject specialists. Some pupils require a higher level of support to develop their emotional regulation to overcome barriers to them accessing our curriculum offer.

Many of the pupils who use the ISLC have social, emotional or mental health challenges, or neurodiversity. However, some pupils may also need to access the ISLC on a short-term basis due to temporary physical impairments (such as broken leg etc) which make access to some areas of the school unsuitable.

We are looking for an outstanding individual who will relish the opportunity to:

  • Manage and co-ordinate the day-to-day function and development of the school’s Independent Study Area, as part of the In School Learning Centre.
  • To supervise and support students to complete classwork and promote overall wellbeing and academic resilience by delivering 1:1 support or group work with students to ensure a positive reintegration back into lessons.
  • To manage and co-ordinate the relevant Pastoral/ Behaviour Monitoring Systems within the ISLC
  • This role will involve working with pupils, teaching staff, outside agencies and parents to co-ordinate personalised learning packages to support a range of SEND, medical and pastoral needs.

What we can offer you

  • A supportive, friendly team where staff are united in the drive for success for our students
  • An opportunity to work with wonderful children and their families
  • An opportunity to make a significant difference in the life chances of vulnerable pupils
  • Access to continuing professional development opportunities
  • Automatic membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Free on-site parking
  • The opportunity to work within Twynham Learning; a progressive multi-academy trust
  • The opportunity to work in one of the most beautiful areas of the South Coast

Who we are looking for

We would love to hear from you if you:

  • Experience of working with children of relevant age
  • Experience of working with pupils with additional needs
  • Experience of safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to Adult Basic Skills level 2
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and other relevant learning programmes
  • Understanding of principles of child development and learning processes and in particular, barriers to learning
  • Developing knowledge of Local Authority, Outside Agencies, local and national organisations which can provide services and activities to support pupils and broaden and enrich their learning
  • Ability to build relationships with children and in particular to motivate children to engage in the learning process
  • Ability to work effectively with parents/carers and a range of professionals

You will also be keen to live our Twynham Learning employee values which are:

  • Aim high
  • Keep improving
  • Don’t leave anyone behind
  • See the bigger picture
