About the Post

For full details about this vacancy, please take a look at our Executive Headteacher vacancy microsite.

This is a rare and prestigious opportunity for an experienced Headteacher to join us and provide executive leadership to two secondary schools in the Twynham Learning Trust – Twynham School and The Grange School (collectively known as ‘Twynham TGS’). Both schools are based on the beautiful Dorset south coast. If you would be relocating to take up this position – perhaps as a positive lifestyle choice – we can offer a relocation expenses package.

In September 2021, Twynham School and The Grange School federated staffing structures enabling us to launch an ambitious and progressive vision for the education provided by our two schools, and transform education across our town.

Twynham School is a very special place with an excellent reputation both locally and nationally.  The Grange School has begun an incredible school improvement journey and, having secured a “good Ofsted judgement in December 2021, is on the way to providing a similarly exceptional quality of education.

The principal focus for this role is vision, strategy, talent management and risk governance.  The successful candidate will have a proven track record of transformational change, rapidly raising educational standards and maintaining school improvement, alongside a commitment to civic leadership of our local communities.

We are looking for an outstanding individual who will relish the opportunity to:

  • Provide strategic leadership for Twynham TGS, delivering the vision and objectives of the schools. Embedding a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement and working with the Local Advisory Board and Trust Executive Team.
  • Work with other senior Twynham Learning leaders on the continual development and growth of the trust, and collaborate on our SISS (self improving schools system).
  • Provide excellent educational leadership for Twynham TGS, through a broad and balanced curriculum, a climate that allows everyone to thrive (with effective behaviour management) and world class teaching and learning. Ensuring excellent student achievement and welfare at both schools.
  • Lead the federation’s workforce, making Twynham TGS an employer of choice, through exceptional recruitment, inclusion, development and communications with staff.
  • Be accountable for utilising finance and business resources to improve quality of education, improve pupils' achievements, ensure efficiency and secure value for money.
  • Develop strong links with our parents and local communities, creating proactive, entrepreneurial and effective links.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding and Child Protection policies.

What we can offer you

  • The opportunity to work within Twynham Learning; a progressive multi-academy trust
  • An opportunity to work with wonderful children and their families
  • An exceptional CPD offer from our Two Rivers Institute
  • The opportunity to work in one of the most beautiful areas of the South Coast
  • Automatic membership of the Teachers Pension Scheme
  • Free on-site parking
  • A tax-free relocation allowance of up to £8,000 may be negotiable for a candidate seeking to relocate their home to our local area to take up this post.

Who we are looking for

We would love to hear from you if you:

  • Have a proven track record as an effective Headteacher or Executive Headteacher with a clear evidence base for sustained high performance and transformational change.
  • Have experience of managing inspection processes at a senior level.
  • Can present plans and strategies to both educationalists and non-educationalists in a clear and concise manner.
  • Have a good understanding of the principles behind school improvement, including school improvement planning, monitoring and reviewing progress.
  • Can demonstrate a sound knowledge of the responsibilities and roles that come with being a senior leader of a school.
  • Have excellent communication (verbal and written), time management and organisation skills.
  • Have a flexible approach towards working practices.
  • Are able to see ‘the big picture’ whilst also having an ‘eye to detail’.
  • Have high expectations of yourself and professional standards.
  • Have the ability to work as both part of a team and independently.
  • Have the ability to listen to and direct colleagues when required.
  • Have the ability to maintain successful working relationships with colleagues.
